Portable library as miniature architecture for children
by GARCIAGERMAN Architects
This small pavilion’s floor plan accurately traces the characteristically semi-circular plan of the Modernist house rotunda where the main school is located, producing a small prefabricated cabin where children can learn and entertain. The project’s central skylight is inspired by Louis I. Kahn’s famous statement about the primal act of learning as the gathering of people under a tree. Meanwhile, the semi-circular canopy offers an extra-performative quality for this micro-library by turning the whole pavilion into a small theatre where children can gather around public readings.
