7 Lexington Renovation
by Studio Esnal
DESCRIPTION: Conversion of a studio and adjacent 1 bedroom apartment into a contemporary 3 bedroom/ 2 bath apartment in the elegant and charming neighborhood of Gramercy Park. The kitchen is relocated to the middle of the apartment and is connected to the living-dining room in an L shape to allow space for a master suite. The old division between apartments becomes a grey arch furniture wall that connects the hallway with the living room. This wall integrates a wood showcase in the hallway and a TV stand and book shelf towards the living room. A sliding door hides into the arch when open to enlarge visually the living room through the continuity of windows. When closed, the bookshelf is revealed. A continuous piece of millwork along the perimeter unifies the windows and integrates the existing heating and ac units.
The master bathroom is combined with the walk-in closet to allow natural light to penetrate into the interior bathroom.
A very clear chromatic palette, truncated white and pale cold greys are used along the project to increase the level of light in the apartment. The oak floors and millwork shelving units provide warmth throughout the apartment.
