Everyday dynamics involve a plethora of actors and practices that establish unstable relations with architectural frameworks and consistently challenge the conventional understanding of domesticity and the family as the privileged unit of inhabitation. This house considers these contingent relations and expanded boundaries through a flexible typology retrofitted with a series of devices that acknowledge changing patterns of inhabitation while allowing for the materialization of dynamic attachments and affections within architecture.
“My house and other animals” results from an intervention in an old apartment. It transforms its spatial and programmatic structure previously defined as a sequence of small rooms and defines a new organization of interconnected spaces along the apartment’s structural bays. A system of interventions mediating the scale of furniture and architecture qualify these bays and facilitate their occupation. They address the needs of a cat, a thirty-something man, his work life and the parties he likes to host. These interventions mediate the attachments structuring ordinary life as well as the expanding forms of sociality involved in this sequence of non-ordinary events hosted in the apartment. They facilitate the required spatial adaptations while allowing for future changes and expected transformations.

His work unfolds through diverse media and platforms and is continuously informed by different kinds of conversations and collaborations. Together with the After Belonging Agency, he is the Chief Curator of the 2016 Oslo Architecture Triennale (Graham Foundation Award 2015). He previously collaborated in the research project Radical Pedagogies, led by Beatriz Colomina at Princeton SOA, and has co-curated its exhibition at the 2013 Lisbon Architecture Triennale and at the 2014 Venice Biennale, where it was awarded a Special Mention of the jury.
He is a Term Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture at Barnard+Columbia Colleges, and has previously taught studios and seminars at Columbia GSAPP and PennDesign. He trained at ETSAMadrid and TU Delft, and graduated as a Fulbright Scholar from the MArchII program at Harvard GSD. He has been a Fellow at the Spanish Academy in Rome, and is completing a PhD in Architecture History at Princeton University.

Arantza Ozaeta Cortázar (1982) y Álvaro Martín Fidalgo (1980) fundaron TallerDE2 Arquitectos en 2008, oficina localizada en Madrid e imaginada como un taller para la arquitectura, el urbanismo y el diseño del paisaje. El estudio mantiene un compromiso con la investigación y el conocimiento, tanto en su formación como en la práctica innovadora. Su trabajo ha sido reconocido internacionalmente, publicado y premiado en varias ocasiones.
El trabajo de Arantza Ozaeta Cortázar y de Álvaro Martín Fidalgo se localiza principalmente entre España, Alemania, Italia e Inglaterra, donde desarrollan su práctica docente como profesores, elaboran sus investigaciones y donde están construyendo concursos que han sido premiados recientemente. Ambos son arquitectos por la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid ETSAM y también ampliaron su formación en Delft University Technology TU-Delft de los Países Bajos. En la actualidad ambos se encuentran elaborando la tesis doctoral en el Departamento de Proyectos Avanzados DPA de la ETSAM.
Arantza Ozaeta Cortázar y Álvaro Martín Fidalgo han sido galardonados con el Premio Bauwelt 2013, Premio COAM Luis M. Mansilla 2013 y Finalista en la XII Bienal Española 2013, por el proyecto ‘Haus der Tagesmütter‘. Han sido premiados en concursos nacionales e internacionales, entre los que cabe destacarel primer premio Europan-09 en Selb (Alemania), mediante el cual están poniendo en práctica una estrategia de Acupuntura Urbana en un contexto de “ciudad menguante». Como resultado de este concurso han desarrollado los proyectos ‘Haus der Tagesmütter‘, completado, y el proyecto ‘Club de la Juventud y Albergue Juvenil’, actualmente en construcción. También han ganado el concurso ‘IQ Vivienda Colectiva Experimental-Wohnquartiere’ en Alemania, que se encuentra en fase de construcción. Así mismo, también fueron seleccionados en el concurso internacional de jardines urbanos efímeros en Bilbao por su proyecto ‘Caverna Vegetal‘, que se construyó y exhibió durante la duración del evento. También han sido finalistas en las concursos para las bodegas ‘Señorío de Villarrica’ y ‘Rothschild & Vega-Sicilia’.
Ambos han desarrollado su actividad docente como profesores en la Architectural Association School of Architecture-Visiting School Programme (Inglaterra), en la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid ETSAM (España), Hochschule Coburg University of Applied Sciences (Alemania), Politecnico di Milano (Italia), Ural State Technical University de Ekaterinburgo (Rusia). Además, han participado activamente en debates, talleres y conferencias. Una selección de maquetas del estudio han sido expuestas en la Galería de Arquitectura de la revista ‘El Croquis’, y su obra ha sido seleccionada para ser expuesta en diferentes lugares y eventos de España, Alemania, Austria e Italia.
